ATS will be exhibiting at the Sea-Air-Space 2006 Expo April 4-6 in Washington, D.C.  The main focus of our booth this year will be ATS’ HiPerTEC, our High Performance Toroidal Engine Concept.  Stop by to see our progress on this exciting program and get a look at our latest prototype!  Also be sure to visit our neighboring booth:   Precision Light Systems, ATS’ commercialization entity for laser welding products.

3/23/2006 ATS awarded patent for continuously variable fluent control valve...

ATS has been awarded a patent (U.S. Patent No. 6988705B1) for its continuously variable fluent control valve, designed specifically for controlling supersonic gas flows.  A near flat control surface on the upper plate of the valve guides the formation of a hydrodynamic pintle under this surface.  This design significantly reduces material ablation.  Additionally, the fluid-fluid boundary between the hydrodynamic pintle and the supersonic flow enables flow patterns that exhibit little or no recirculation.  ATS has designed, analyzed, and tested variations of this valve in-house under its hypersonics research efforts.  More information on our valve research can be found under the More on Hot Gas Valves link on our Hypersonics page.

11/9/2005 ATS proudly introduces Precision Light Systems, LLC, a company dedicated to the advancement of laser welding in industry...

In September 2005, in an effort sponsored by the Maine Technology Institute, Applied Thermal Sciences introduced its first commercialization entity:  Precision Light Systems, LLC (PLS).  In continued support for the development of new technology and promotion of industrial development in Maine, ATS launched PLS with the task of commercializing laser welding technology and processes developed under in-house research programs.  PLS is a unique and innovative laser fabricator of structural steel shapes, beams, and panels for applications in commercial construction, transportation, infrastructure, and marine industries.  Their mission is to meet the market demand for high-precision, lightweight, affordable structures, to provide advanced machinery, methods, and materials to meet these requirements, and to provide quality employment opportunities and exceptional customer service.  For more information please contact PLS directly at (207)373-9302.
